Nearly 250 people came to Amare theater on Friday, November 10, to celebrate Informal Care Day. During the event, various activities were organized to put informal caregivers in the spotlight. In addition to an information market with (informal care) organizations, workshops and a theater performance, visitors could view more than 20 care solutions, especially for informal caregivers. In addition, it was possible to borrow a tool on site for free to try out at home.
Presenter Johan Overdevest opened the event with a warm welcome, after which he gave the floor to Luc de Witte, lecturer in Healthcare Technology at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Luc emphasized that there are many smart and useful tools available that can support informal caregivers in their care tasks, but that unfortunately few people use them. He underlined the importance of paying attention to healthcare technology, given the many possibilities it has to offer.
Learning from experienced experts
Councilor Mariëlle Vavier emphasized that every day is Informal Care Day for informal caregivers. Their commitment to the care of others makes them extremely important and indispensable. 'In The Hague we aim to reach many more informal caregivers with our support offering than is currently the case. A challenge for all of us is not only to pay attention to cultural diversity, but also to socio-economic diversity. To arrange the care of a family member and to find and use the available resources, it is necessary to have a lot of knowledge. I argue for greater use of experiential expertise to ensure that the tools that are developed are truly accessible.'
