What steps must be taken to realize the funding and financing of technology for care and support at home? And what concrete financing models are already available in this area? To find out how the funding and financing of healthcare technology is organized in the country and to collect ideas, a dialogue session was held on 30 January during the ICT&health Congress. with 90 participants. The session is organized by the municipality of The Hague in collaboration with Niels van Gorp of VGZ/Zorgverzekeraars Nederland.
Care is increasingly moving to people's homes. To help residents live longer and more comfortably at home, the implementation of technological innovations must accelerate. A major issue is: who pays what, when? What will people pay themselves (in the future)? What will be financed (in the future) by the municipality or health insurer? What other financing models are there in the (tech) industry and how far do we want to go? And especially important: how do we finance innovations that cross the (care) chain?
Different possibilities
In order to get answers to the questions, ideas were discussed during the dialogue session from the different possibilities:
- People pay for it themselves
- Municipality finances
- Healthcare providers finance themselves
- Health insurance financier
- We jointly finance it as a care chain
- New/different financing models, with other stakeholders
Appropriate approach
The municipality of The Hague is working closely with its partners on an approach to structural financing and funding of care technology at home. To this end, it is actively conducting discussions with residents of The Hague, healthcare providers, healthcare consumers, entrepreneurs, insurers and other municipalities during this period.
