Resources are of great importance to support and improve the self-reliance, quality of life and participation in society of residents. With the right aids, people who experience limitations in daily life can also continue to live independently at home for longer. They are also needed to meet the growing demand for care. A lot of care can take place in the home situation by using aids. The Academic Workshop will conduct research that will help to use resources smartly and effectively in the home situation.
Better, more efficient and more innovative
In an academic workplace, ideas, plans and policy are created and devised by researchers, students, municipal officials and policy officers. Together they think about how something can be done better, more efficiently, but also more innovatively. This is important because in practice there are many problems with the use of resources. For example, little is known about the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of many aids. The provisioning process is also often complex and professionals and residents have relatively little knowledge about which resources are available and how they can be used. Another problem is that resources are often individual; what is a good solution for one person may have no added value for another. And finally, the reimbursement differs per municipality and/or health insurer. These problems mean that there is still much room for improvement in the proper use of resources.
Target research
The primary goal of the Academic Workshop is to gain a clearer picture of how residents in the Haaglanden region think about the use of aids, what experiences they have with aids and how they are provided. It is also examined to what extent and how they use resources, what ideas they have about possible improvements for policy and practice and what other aspects they consider important. It is being investigated how the needs assessment, choice and provision can be improved, so that a suitable tool can be found together with the resident that meets the wishes and needs. The focus is on aids to support daily functioning.
Cooperation
The Academic Workshop is intended to promote a solid knowledge and research infrastructure for medical aids in the home situation. We do this together with a large number of parties in the city. The healthcare parties Basalt, Tzorg, Saffier and Pieter van Foreest are currently involved.
The user organizations Voorall and the Urban Elderly Commission as representatives of the target group are also participating, as are the educational and knowledge institutions ROC Mondriaan, Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and The Hague University of Applied Sciences, and of course the municipality of The Hague.
The education and training of end users and healthcare professionals are given shape with the healthcare parties. They also ensure the dissemination of the research results.
The healthcare parties Basalt, T-zorg, Pieter van Foreest and Saffier, and the municipality of The Hague ensure that projects are well embedded in and in line with the reality of healthcare, and implement the results.
